Fractional CFO (Contract)

At Firm Five, we modernize bookkeeping and fractional controllership. We serve a client base of emerging brands with $2M–$50M annual revenue in Canada and the US, helping them not only maintain their financial reporting but also optimize and automate their financial processes. Our clients rely on us for all things accounting and administration (we don’t do tax work), and we take pride in delivering clarity, efficiency, and financial insight.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced finance leader to serve as a Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO), providing strategic financial guidance and advisory services on a part-time or project basis. This role is ideal for a senior finance professional who can deliver high-level insights, optimize financial performance, and guide executive decision-making without the commitment of a full-time position.

Contract Terms

  • Part-time, contract, or project-based (typically 5–20 hours/week depending on scope).
  • Fully remote position
  • Hourly or retainer-based, commensurate with experience and engagement level.
  • Assignments are offered as client needs arise. During gaps between projects, there are no required hours and payment applies only to active engagements.

Key Responsibilites

  • Take ownership of client relationships and ensure a seamless transition to Firm Five’s service model.
  • Onboard new clients by thoroughly assessing and understanding their business operations and financial processes.
  • Partner with our clients to shape long-term financial strategy and growth plans.
  • Present objective financial advice to management and clients, offering insightful financial analysis to drive strategic decision-making (FP&A)
  • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash-flow models.
  • Deliver scenario analysis and KPI dashboards to inform leadership.
  • Assess and strengthen internal controls, policies, and processes.
  • Evaluate financing options, prepare investor materials, and support capital raises.
  • Offer insight on pricing models, cost optimization, and profitability drivers.
  • Leverage technology and automation to streamline financial workflows and KPI reporting.
  • Educate clients on financial concepts and performance metrics translating data into actionable insights.
  • Guide clients through process transitions and system implementations.

Qualifications

  • Canada or USA post secondary required
  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent senior finance credentials.
  • 5+ years of progressive finance leadership
  • Proven ability to operate in fast-paced, entrepreneurial, or growth-stage environments.
  • Strong understanding of cash flow management, corporate finance, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Takes ownership of projects and is energized by transforming disorganized financial situations into simplified, well-organized systems.
  • Tech-savvy with a strong drive for automating workflows, enhancing efficiency, and refining KPI reporting.
  • Strong understanding of servicing multiple clients and delivering results.
